To Wave or Not to Wave....... "that is the question Whether 'tis nobler in the mind to sufferThe slings and arrows of outrageous fortune, Or to take arms against a sea of troubles ...........And by opposing...... end them.".... a little play on Shakespeares Hamlet.
There seems to be fewer traditions, and less respect going around the world these days. To me, a simple wave or gesture is a sign of respect toward my fellow biker and I for one want to continue this long standing tradition. But to each his/her own.
OMG!! I live here in good O' Tn myself, have a carry permit and wave at other bikers all the time ( other Harleys and ricers alike ) I can't imagine having to eat gravel just for being friendly!
I don't think my wave could ever be understood to be a gun. I pretty much just throw my hand out (more down than out even) with an open palm. Never got into the "V-twin point."
Sounds to me like someone's paranoid or just an anti biker, looking to cause trouble. Probably calls the cops if a neighbor of his waves a barbecue fork at him......I mean, it does resemble an RPG at long distances doesnt it?

I`m not so sure about the "Long Standing Tradition" part of your reply. I was riding a Panhead 40 years ago and a Shovel 30 years ago, same Shovel 20 years ago, now riding Evos. We NEVER waved at other riders. This has only started in about the last 10 years or so. We did SALUTE with one finger a lot of Riceburners back in the day though. Course we were flyin' 'Colors' and not many wanted to wave at us....
You're probably right, and I should have left out "long standing".... and just said tradition. The whole wave thing might have started about the same time the "riceburners" started to become popular by the college kids and yuppies, as an acknowledgement between those who ride the real thing. But what for what ever the reason it all started and why, I'll keep doing "the wave".
