That has to be the craziest thing I've heard in awhile.

I respectfully disagree about the wave just being around for the last 10 years or so. I started riding in '81, and HD riders around here waved as the passed each other most of the time.
Also, all kinds of speciality vehicle owners wave at each other when they pass. Sometimes when I am driving my vett I wave at HD's and sometimes when I am riding my bike I wave at vetts. Just my way of saying that I see them and am not going to do something stupid and slam into them. I think you got pulled over due to some cager who constantly lives in fear; actually it is rather sad they live their life like that.

i thought it was about camaraderie. I wave to anyone with less than 4 wheels, Even scooters sometimes. Even cops and sometimes they Even wave back. but only Harley's when I'm in the F'n cage and it's more of the #1 sign than a wave. about 10% don't wave back and thats fine it's their choice.

The sad thing is, someone can say you waved a gun at them whether you waved or not...............so by not waving anymore does nothing for you. This world is just full of SOB's and sorry azzhats!!!

I started riding almost 40 years ago and bikers were greeting each other then with a wave or a raised arm with a fist. Maybe there are regional variations. I think it's a good thing that even though we may be very different, we acknowledge the one thing that we know we have in common: we ride. If I don't wave back at you, I'm either too busy shifting or focused on something more important, like staying alive.

"The wave" appears to have evolved into a low down hand extention that for me makes my left arm feel like it is about to be blown off at speed. I've switched to lifting my arm up and keeping my hand parallel to the bike so that it doesn't catch the wind and looks more like a wave than a "Hey, I'm cool." stick out to the side. Just my opinion. Frankly I'm kind of sick of the whole exercise anyway, and sick of having to watch for oncoming bikes to practice "the wave" tradition. Guess I am getting old and crochety.

I got pulled over in Dakota one time and checked for weapons because the cop said I fit the profile of another biker that had a holster on his bars.

He then volunteered to tell me that a complaint came in that I had "Brandished a weopon" at them. I then asked them where did the complaint come from. I then realized what had happened. The "Wave" got me, I knew where I had waved at someone and actually knew the guy, a harley rider also. I guess the black gloves and watch looked like a pistol? Don't know if the complaint was actually from him or a cager that I had met. Well after I got searched, my bags got searched, my license number ran through the system, and listened to my explanation, they realized I was clean. Just a word of warning, be careful with that wave. I know there are numerous threads about waves, but I think this one is the first about actually getting pulled over for a silly wave!
I'm sorry man, but that's freakin' funny
