I am looking at putting a narrower belt on my 99 LowRider. The 99 has the Wide Belt and narrow tire. The widest I can go on the rear tire is a 130.
Can anyone tell me if the newer belt drive pulleys will fit? How many teeth they have (various models, dyna, softtail...) If it will bolt onto my wheel, will I need a spacer? What is the belt width on the newer models?
I know Im asking a lot but I am really tired of sitting my fat a$$ on a tire that is the same size as the front tire on many later models.
Thought about doing a wide tire offset kit but they get expensive really fast and a narrower belt seems much simpler.
is the narrow belt even with the inside or outside of your current pulley?
only way you do not need spacer is if the pulley has more offset from the wheel than the current one .
bet you can get an answer from a wrench at stealership...
After doing some rough measurement pretty sure all the rear sprockets are the same bolt patterns. So here's the plan, replace the existing 1.5 inch sprocket with a 1 inch sprocket and a spacer. This will give me an extra 1/2 inch and should allow me to use a 160 tire all for about $200.00, maybe less.
As long as the pulley lines up with the belt, you will not have a problem. Just for kicks, have you measured your rear swing arm and compared it to the newer models ? I have heard that replacing the belt is not much fun..
Not too much advantage in replacing the swing arm. The current clearence on my belt with a 130 tir is only about 1/4 inch. I cant pass my little finger between the tire and belt.
turns out a parts guy at local stealer did what you speak of to a older softail...do not know the spacer he used but if they out there good deal then...
gonna be work intensive. you gonna get to take the whole primary off to change the belt I believe.
