Got licensed and my first bike in June. It was a small bike that I knew I would grow out of, I just did not realize how quick. Always knew I wanted a Harley. found myself gravitating toward Dynas. Started shopping the Dynal Low Rider as HD indicated "easy to ride/good handling" and being a new rider that means something.
Was turned to the Super Glide Custom by sales as they said it would be just as easy to ride as I am 5'10" with long legs.
Went to drop a deposit and new sales gets me hooked on the Fat Bob. This bike speaks to me
Can't seem to get a test ride on either to compare the ride and not sure if the front controls are for more advanced riders?
How does the Fat Bob compare in ease of handling to the Low Rider and Super Glide Custom?
Thanks for your help
Jim
with the wider tires I bet the fat bob is a little more stable over irregular surfaces and bridge grating...
the forward controls are nothing special to use...If you got long legs you may need em for comfort sake...
I can see how a short legged rider may find em less easy to control if their legs are not bent all that much.
buy the fatbob... get the fowards and just go somewhere safe to acclimate to em...
do not buy the anything but your #1 choice for sure!!!!
Supposedly the Fat Bob comes with either mid or forward controls (per HD's web site), although all the ones I've seen in dealerships had forwards. Point is, either can be converted to the other, though obviously you would save money getting what you really want to begin with.
I was a new rider when I bought my FXDC. I had forwards installed before I brought it home, I have a 34 inch inseam, and my knees would not like the mids. I had zero issues with going right to forwards. I wound up installing Kury Switchblade pegs, which have flip open heel stirrups. One of the best mods I did for leg comfort, and ability to move the feet around, plus i can kick them closed for twisties. As to The Fat Bob vs FXDC, it is all taste and choice. FXDC was a great bang for the buck with the chrome and extras, but i do love the fat bob look.
I'm 5'10 and won't ever want to change them. You will get accoustomed to them almost instantly and be glad you didn't get mids. I went from a sportster(W/forwards) to the fatbob and thought I would miss the sporty, but I only had to round one corner to scream goodbye sporty! You will love the handling af the FatBob,if your dealer can get you one that is,our local dealer has 9 '09's sold and they haven't even received one yet!
See you found the site. Do a search on the Fatbob. Pay particular attention to what people don't like...most of us will have plenty of positive stuff to say about a bike we just bought, but you want to dig and find the warts. In the end, I suspect you'll be very happy with any of the Dyna series. It was the right choice when I got started. Looking forward to your getting the bike and then we'll hit the roads.
The Fatboy is very balanced and the big tires help a lot on the road. Whatever you get, make sure you test ride it first.
Not sure what everybody means with forward controls. My Fatboy came with floor boards and are very comfortable (I'm 5'11"). Only seen one Fatboy with forward controls and it belonged to a guy that's 6'5".

I am also 5'10" but I only have a 30" inseam. I guess we would look pretty funny standing next too each other. I have a wide glide with forward controls and I love it. I dont think I could ride with mids because I have always had forwards.
