As I understand it, the Fat Bob is the one Dyna that comes with forward controls as an option (the 2008 WG also...but it's on its way out for the time being). The only downside to forwards is that you can't pop yourself up on bumps, so you kinda take it in the ***.

If you go with forwards, I'd get midpegs...but that's just me.

I bought MY first Harley in May, and took ownership on the 1st of August, after returning from Iraqistan. I went with my first choice (a Street Bob) and haven't looked back...I recommend doing the same...whatever you buy, make sure it's hands down what you want, or you won't be happy later on.

Go with what's more comfortable for you.

Get the one that lights your fire. Any Dyna should be easy enough to handle. As for the forwards, that's a personal preference thing, and with the Fat Bob you can choose either way. Good luck.

If you've found one that speaks to you, get it. That's what it's all about. All of the dyna's handle great so you wouldn't be disappointed on that point with any of them. The fatbob is the only dyna that offers the factory option of mids vs. forwards. There are kits available to do a DIY conversion from mids to forwards but going the other way might be a bit more difficult and expensive. I have a 34" inseam but I'm 6'4" and I quickly found forwards were the only way to go for me. I don't think you want to do a lot of standing up on your pegs anyway. Just think of the potential disaster should a peg or a bolt break for some reason. I've had a peg mount bolt break on my forwards before but fortunately it was when the bike was on the kickstand when I was just tightening the bolt. These aren't rigids so it's not that big a deal to hit a bump without being able to lift yourself off the seat.

Given the information you've given and the fact that you do already have some riding experience, I'd go for the fatbob with stock forward controls. My FXDC was my first bike and the hour + ride home from the dealer was my first riding experience (not counting years of riding dirtbikes). I grinned all the way home but at the same time I realized the mid controls were going to have to go. A buddy loaned me his extra set of highway pegs and that made me realize that forwards would work for me just fine. After 2 weeks, I ordered forwards and installed them and have never looked back.
