Go easy on me guys! That's why i'm asking for your opinion. I've always thought and heard that the gas was all the same. Just the oil companys way of getting more money out of you. Trust me I wouldn't try to save a nickel if I thought it would harm my bike! I do appreciate all of the opinions and harsh answers. "LOL"
Sounds like I'm shifting right and running in the right gears as I thought I was. It is my first harley and my first brand new bike so it can't hurt to ask.
No I didn't read the owners manual. It's not the first bike I've had. Just the first new bike I've ever had. Clutch, shift, gas. Clutch, shift, gas. Clutch, shift, gas. Thought it was all the same. It's rainnig today in Cincinnati but first thing tomorrow I'm going for some high octane!
Thanks guys,
Tim
As an old timer who's probably been riding more years than you are old I'd recommend sitting down and at least skimming through the owners manual. In amongst the plethora of legal warnings you'll find some valuable information. Since you say it's raining in your neck of the woods this is the perfect time to do this.
Give it a try, you (and the bike) will be better off for it.
If you are in 6th gear a 50mph that is probably the problem. If you had a tach, you would see that 70mph in 6 gear is 2800 rpm on my 06 Street Bob. At 50 you should be at least in 4th gear.

I have always tried to keep my engine above 2300rpm also, that alone will take a lot of the pinging out.
POISOND,what engine oil do you use,Quaker State 30w Non-Detergent?....just joking with ya....seriously though, like someone else mentioned, read the manual while its raining and if you do any wrenching, buy the factory service manual...its better than a Steven King novel!!!...:>)
I let the dealer do the break in change for me. I opted for the HD synthetic but who's to say what is in the case. I plan on staying with synthetics. I think this is what it sounds like most are doing.

Sooo... found myself in a one gas station town without enough fuel to get to the next stop. My choices were 85 octane w/o ethanol or 91 octane with ethanol. If i remember the manual says 91 or better and avoid ethanol.
So what is then better choice in those circumstances?
