Default Lowering

If you plan on doing your own service on the bike, be careful. If you lower it too much you can't even get a jack under it. I know because I put 10.5 inch not shocks on mine and couldn't get it off the ground. Even at 11" you will drag your pegs in corners easily.

Your SGC has 12-5/8" shocks from the factory. I personally, wouldn't go lower than 11.5" if I were you and if you ride 2-up more than 1/2 the time, I would go with a heavy duty shock. I put 11" Progressive shocks on my Streetbob, which comes from the factory with 12" shocks. That 1" made a big difference in things contacting the concrete in corners.

I went with 12" Progressive 412 HD's and use a lower, the lowest, solo seat as well and Ride 2-up just fine now and then.

I put tamarack 1.75 inch lowering blocks on my stock superglide shocks about a year ago. My wife is glued to the back and we rarely (if ever) bottom out. I would say get the heavy duty 11" shocks from progressive. I scrape sometimes but I didn't lower the front. I assume that if I had lowered the front I'd scrape alot more. I do have a hard time getting my jack under the bike though.

11" 412
heavy duty
If you lower both front and rear you will need a new jiffy stand
the progressive front end feels better than the stock front .
the rear will absorb the small stuff much better than stock.
to jack the bike you will need to roll the rear tire up onto something to get the jack under easily.(I use 2 10 lb iron barbell weights)

I installed Progressive 440's 11.5 inch on my 2008 FXDC. Put just a little preload on the springs and have had no bottoming problems even with two up (and me and the gal aint exactly skinny). No adverse handling effects either.

11" 412 heavy duty's, ride 2 up no problem, no corner scrapes either, rides just a little rougher but not bad!
