like how? ... where to find a replacement? How to perform the task?

If "where to find" - have you tried your local dealer? Do they carry OEM parts for that far back?

If "how" - have you purchased a service manual?

I have an 82 FXR Superglide II Clutch Cable Replacement isnt that hard of a job, just get the new clutch cable and see where your old clutch went b4 u start taking the old clutch wire out so u can re-route it the right way. When I did mine I ran some lubrication on the cable itself so it would be smoother. Also after reinstalling ur clutch cable you may need to adjust it. When adjusting I think my manual says it should have a little maybe 1/4 Inch of play in the Hand Grip Part. Also a manual is a def help to make sure you do everything correct, and also after adjusting your clutch, me myself I took mine out for a few rides just to see where i liked it to grab, not too soon and not too early its all in your preference

"The Only Dumb Question is the One You Dont Ask"

Hope it all goes smooth
