Default Lost my clutch

85 FXRS was ridding yesterday and felt something give in the clutch when I wentfrom 2 to 3rd,thought the cable broke but still intact.Got back home and re-adj the clutch pack then tried to take slack out of cable but ran out of thread,still need to go about 3/4" to get the slack out.I never got a shop manual so I 'mlooking for some help on where to look next.

Check both ends of where the cable connects. It may have come loose from the trans/clutch side. You also may just need a new cable if that one is the stock one and it is stretched out since your bike is that old.

Cable is fairly new 1 yr (maybe)or newer,I think it is deeper in the trans or clutch area ,I took off clutch arm that is on right side of bile and looks everything looks ok.There is a fork on theshaft that pushes on a shaft that goes all the way through to clutch pack,doesn't seem like there is a much push there to engauge clutches,any one know how much gap is suppose to be there?Sorry trying to explain it the best I can.
