I installed a quick detach standard windshield today however im unsure of height
if i slouch im lookin thru it ...if i sit completly staight up im over it by 3 inches or so
my question is where should it be? I have never owned a bike with a windshield
I notice on softails and roadkings your lookin thru it
IS A MATTER OF PREFERENCE ? I noticed on highway is was great backroads was a lot more buffeting

Sounds like it right where it should be. That is where mine is and it works great. You will get that occasional bug that just misses the windshied and gets you, but not often. During a heavy rain you might want to duck a little though.
You called it. Personal preference. I prefer to look over it. The wind kicks up over the top so I hardly ever get a bug. Also if I DO get caught in the rain my vision is better over the top cause I don't have to look through two sets of raindrops.
My last bike had the first windshield I've ever had, after 7 bikes. I always hated the look, and thought they took away from the experience. I decided I'm older and wanted the protection. I set it so I could see over it. It was great; a lot less wind, buffeting, bugs, and dirt/rocks. Now with a new Wide Glide, I bought one but haven't put it together yet. Today I found out the difference. The wind tried to pull the same 3/4 helmet off my head, I had to strap in on a lot tighter, and lots of stuff hitting me.
Your position is the same as mine on my 05 SG. If your comfortable with it, stay with that. You are suppose to look over the windshield not through it, but its what you like.
I like looking over the top of the windshield also. Sometimes after a long day, the bugs start to pile up and it's a pain looking through them. Also, like others had said, if it rains, just duck down a bit and keep going. 05 Super Glide, H-D compact windshield, engine guards with highway peg mounts, Kurakyn Iso-Pegs all around.
I haven't tried the sport shield but my local HD parts manager steered me away from it. He said it doesn't do much good and he's never sold one. Take that information anyway you like. I just thought I would share. I'm curious to hear from someone that said they like the HD sport shield on a WdGld.
I have been using a detachable H-D compact windshield (clamps on) on the 04 FXDL. I mount it low, the lower clamps below the triple tree. The sliders have not bottomed out on the clamps, it gives me a good wind break and is low so not to block my vision. It covers the head light by an inch or so.
