I almost ordered the $800 Boss Bags...I'm sure they're nice. On re-consideration don't want to put so much into something I won't use all that much. And maybe someday, I'll buy that Electra-Glide anyway. Any suggestions on economical bags that are functional and not too cheap looking? I'm thimking the Kurykan throwovers may be the ticket...although they're not leather.....there are some leather throwover for about the same price $200 or so, but they must be pretty shabby for that price.
You may also want to look into Willie & Max saddlebags. They're in the same ballpark price wise and they do offer a multitude of styles. They're not built to the same standards nor the same materials as the $800 Boss bags but they will do the job.
Below is a pic of my Bob fitted out for major travel. The bags are Willie & Max SB752 Ranger series and the sissy bar bag is an Xelement SH538 from Leatherup.com. If you look close you'll also see a W&M tool bag hanging off the front fork. Total for all of this plus shipping was around $300.
Bought a set of the Willie & Max bags a couple of month ago. Still have not gotten around to putting them on yet. Need to relocate the rear turn signals. Will be getting it done soon though due to the weather getting cooler and I'll need some place to put the jacket in for the ride in the afternoon's.
Bought mine for around $115.00 online. There the standard slant bags. (which is why I have to relocate the rear turn signals) Pretty nice bags for the price will see how well they hold up I guess.
Check out River Road compact medium slants. They look good, they are not leather but they dont look like plastic crap. I am considering picking up a pair. I checked out a set at a local shop and I was pleasantly surprised at there cost to value ratio.
You really should check out Leatherworks: http://www.leatherworksinc.com/ I've got a set of their slant bags for my 06 bob and they look and work great. Superior craftmanship on the leather, thickest leather bags I've ever seen. I picked up my set for around $300 for a local guy here in Ga. Renegade Cycle in Richmond Hill. Maybe he'll ship if you give him a call.

They might be the way to go. Wondering if their "Easy BRacket" system works w/ '08 Bob......also need turn signal relocation??? I have asked them and will see.

Yes the Easy Brackets will work on an 08 Street Bob. And uless you go with the compact bags you'll need to relocate your turn signals.
You can check out the Easy Brackets web site http://www.easybrackets.com/
to take a look. They also have some videos of the install for both the brackets and turn signal relocation kit.
