Default Wire extensions

I just got a set of 16" apes and am getting all my ducks in a row to do the switch sometime soon. I was looking at getting the novello extension kit. Asking anyone whose gone from stock mini-apes (10") to full apes (16"), since all cables are plus 8, should/could I use that same rule for the harness extension?

I have not checked the harness yet to see how short it really is so I'm assuming a lot right now, and as the bad news bears taught me....never assume.

I cut and soldered them when they were on my bike, just takes a little patience and don't rush it.

Appreciate the input, gentlemen. Just extending the wires manually was definitely a thought but knowing my working conditions (no garage) I was looking/hoping for more of a plug n play solution. Just getting too old to deal with the bugs, skeeters, etc. (Ever dealt with a large amount of ticked off fire ants? lol) Even saw in jp cyces they have the deutch connectors. I could build the extension indoors then just plug it inline and wa-la.

Default Bars

Joe,
What size bars do you have on your bike, It looks like you have the 2" (homemade ) risers too. I'm thinking about going up on my 06 Bob but can't decide how high. I don't want to go crazy but would like to go up some. Right now I've got the 2" risers on the stock bars (12'??? Minis) So I'm thinking go 16" with no risers or 14" with the risers..... Trying to get a good mix of comfort and looks..... Any suggestions.

You should be fine with the +8 on the harness. You already have about 2 inches of play. The shape of the bars affects how much extension you may need. Wider, square-bent bars take more wiring than gentle bend. If you really want to be sure measure the length of your wiring as it sits now from the middle of the riser clamp to the switch housings, following whatever path the wiring takes. Then measure your new bars following their contour from the entry hole to the exit hole for the internal wiring. Whatever the difference is your extension. I think Novello only makes 4, 8, and 12, so I would definitely go with the 8.

You can also go on ebay and buy the controls complete with almost any length wires you could need.

Just FYI I did 16in bars on my 07 WG had the extension kit in hand and ready to go, ended up not needing it. Had enough extra in stock wiring harness to do the job.

Really? I may have to sit down with it and see what I really have to work with. If I need to extend, I'll get what I need. I appreciate that heads up. I got same year/model so maybe it has some extra laying inside the frame.

This is sort of an old thread but since I have my 16's apart because a little accident a few weeks back I've been working it out on extending the harnesses. The 07 harness for the controls was JUST long enough but didn't allow for much play. I rode with it like that for about 3/4 of a year.

Anyway, to my point.

To the guys in this thread that extended their harness (cut solder method), do you know what size wires were used? Would be a big help.
