hiya all. smack dab in the middle of my 16" ape upgrade and so far things not going well. im going from stock mini's to 16's. i bought the 12" wire extension from jp cycles and according to the thebestofindica's post there is plug somewherethat these get plugged into but i cant get any slack out of any wires. do these extension kits get plug into something or are they just to make matching the wires easiers and hard splicing them in? any help with these will be appreciated so i can finish tomorrow..this is on a 2004 dyna wide glide. any info will be greatly apprecieated
thanks
The plug is in the spine under the tank...where the wiring goes into your frame in front of your tank......well, you just need to pull them...there is plenty of slack in there.. The wiring is folded in the spine...pull the wiring and you will start to feel it give and when it does it will come out and you will see the plug.
i see the turn signal plug..i could hardly get that one out(if you wanna call it that) i see no plastic under under backbone. your right there is a big twist of cable under the seat but its nearly impossible to bend it enough to pull it through. should i cut the plastic sheathing off? i cant believe harley left no type of access under there. the wire wasnt giving at all so i did not want to keep pulling. if i do happen to get it out how do the extensions work? do you guys advise not to hard splice it in if need be?
Your pulling from the front??? Pull that wiring out from the front!! PULL THAT BITOCH!!! I pulled that and thought it was going to break or whatever then. POP!! There it is.
I am not sure what extention you have but, alot of them come with connectors that you have to connect the new to the old. You have to pop the old wiring outta the plug...mark the wires to what hole it fits in tothe plug and use the connectors from the old wires, put on the new and plug the new wire into the plug..
I have to redo mine, I used just regular wiring and cut and splice, solder and tape! I just would rather have it straight plug to switch.
The 05 and Older bikes are diffrent.. There is a wire tie holding the bundle together Most people pull the rear tire to be able to get room to get there hands in there to cut the tie..( Next to the rear fender) Have some one pull from the front as you push the cable from the rear. Becareful you dont want to pull any of the plugs apart. There is about 10" of extra wire in the bundle. The 06 and newer are as HOGRIDA says .. Simple Trotter
Hi there, I've the same kind of concerns with a dyna superglide sport 2004, I've to reach the turn signal plug.but even can't see the connector. I've already pull very hard from the front part of the frame :-(
any advises ?
The wiring harness on an 04 Wide Glide is inside the frame like mentioned. I had to cut the plastic zip tie under the seat to loosen the slack necessary to push/pull the wire bundle through the frame. It is hard to wiggle and feed it through but you will see the loop of slack under the seat waiting for you. I think the front zip tie holding on the rubber stopper must be cut too. They are easily replaced after you are done with your mod.
