Needless to say, the new hiped 2008 "Tommy Gun" 2-1-2 collector exhaust w/ dual mufflers for the 2008 Dyna Fat Bob was a total bust for HD. I have roughly 3500 miles and the pipes need to be replaced and my dealership has a new set on order. Along with a baffle issue; From day 2, i have fought with the hose clamps that keep the exhaust heat shield in place from rattling like a piece of thin sheet metal blowing in a wind storm. My buddies are enjoying the chance to poke fun at how my big Harley 96 Cubic inch V-Twin sounds like an early 1980's laboring Honda.
Once i found out that a new set of stock pipes were to be ordered, i enquired if they would allow me to swap out and pay the difference for an alternate exhaust but was told that HD will not allow that and i had to take the stock pipe. O well, i can see the point but, hardly what i wanted to hear.
Now comes my problem. I've been reading about different types of pipes and V&H has come to the top of the list several times. I looked the V&H Short Shots but didn't like the thought of loosing horse power just for the looks. Sure, the short shots are nice if your throttle is wide open all the time but this is not the case in most instances. I like the look of the big radius but these also deminish power in the low end.
I know the best way to go is 2-1 and the V&H Big Radius 2-1 is making a good case but i have not decided if maybe the best way to go is to just suck it up and keep the stock pipes and toss on the Screaming Eagle slip-ons.
I would love to hear what advice you might have to offer. Thanks

When I got my pipes changed over to the V&H Big Radius 2-2 from the stock pipes with SE Slip-ons I only lost .2 hp, gained something like 7 foot pound of torque and a flat flatter torque curve. I definitely notice a difference in the torque. I am at work and will edit my post when I get home with the before and after numbers. Hell, I'll try to scan in my dyno chart.

I love the looks of the short shot staggered, and the short shot slant, really hard to beat, but the V & H Pro Pipe might be my next...
Pretty sure they available for the dyna, and I know they come in black (my choice)
The open slots on the top of the back pipe pass right by the inside of the inner thigh muscle and it is very very hot. If i come to a complete stop after traveling for a bit, i have had to lift my leg out and away from the pipe. I have forward controls.
Additional Info: As you can see from the pic of my bike in the opening post of this thread; the rear pipe stays in line with my leg due to being stretched out with the forward controls. Basically my jeans are resting on the pipe and skin is no more than 1 inch away from the open "Tommy Gun" slots in the shield.

I put the V&H Big Radius 2-2, if I lost any power I sure can't tell it. The bike performs great. Leaving on a 2,000+ mile trip in a week and have no doubts as to how the Fat Bob will perform!!
Even when I had stock exhaust on the Fat Bob...............excessive heat was never a factor on my leg. Of course, I don't ride with shorts and flipp flops as some on this forum do!!
