Thanks. i am also about 6-2 so the extensions seem slike a good idea. i guess we just need to get a rubber cap to cover the spline and make it looks like it belongs. i am surprised kuryakyn doesn't make a cover with a cap to cover it.
oh well thanks again

I've done some checking on removing the shifter mech from the primary, its about a $200 job at the dealer, from what I understand you need some special tools etc... . The 2" is nice, I'm 6'2 with long legs, the 2" extention was 10x more comfortable than the fwd controls without it.
Guess I won't need the extentions; I'm 5' 10" have a 31" inseam.
Just did my 05 Low Rider. The little cap (cover) for the unused splines is available from Harley. My dealer had to order it and it cost $24. Its part of the HD conversion kit.
I had recently put on forward controls on my 05 FXD . I bought the chrome controls for the FXDWG ,comes with all hardware and intructions ,only took a little over an hour to install .The controls were $299 from HD comes with chrome brackets ,shift lingage, brake rod extension, chrome brake pedal ,etc. You use some parts from the original mid controls ,and you do not have to remove the primary cover ,has a chrome cover for shifter input splined shaft ,and a bracket for the shift linkage from the inner primary .
I have the same deal qwith the spindle cap. Im alwase asked what is that? looks a bit like an belly button. How hard is it to remove the old shifter post
I did the same conversion on my 94 Dyna, the brake side is a breeze. But the shifter side, especially if you as **** as I am when it comes to fit and finish. The kit comes with little cover for the end of the shaft that goes through the primary which I did not like so I removed the primary and replaced it with a wide glide unit. Not as easy as just using the kit and of course it added a few bucks to the job, but I feel it was well worth it! I hope this helps ya, and didn't create more work than you planned on.
I converted my 96 FXDS to forward controls. Got semi complete hardware from an 02 Wide Glide bought off ebay. You can get a cap to cover the shift shaft. The forward controls bolt where the highway pegs are now. You can buy the conversion kits thru harley which come complete with the above mentioned cap and all linkages. I had to purchase new shift linkage since it did not come with my purchase. Good news is all missing parts are available thru dealer. You can find pretty much any part you need off ebay with a little patience. If in doubt, ask for part number from seller, then verify with dealer it will fit.
Tripper I have installed the Kuyrakyn forward control kit and while it took a while it was not hard and the finished job looked good
ORIGINAL: Tripper
I am about to do this myself on an '05 Low Rider. Here are the instructions for Kuryakyn forward controls. http://www.kuryakyn.com/documents/in...-21HD-0205.pdf
I think instalation is about $150 or 2hrs labor at a Harley shop but you will need to buy a lift ($90 or so at sears) to do it yourself. I bought the parts on eBay for $300 + $15 shipping and the lift (+$90) for a total of $405 plus my time and labor (priceless learning experience). This is opposed to $400 for parts ($300 for Harley parts) and $150 installation: $550 and knowing the job was done by Professionals(?). It's you money and time and your choice.
On Dyna models you will get extension bars for both the brake and shifter levers so you will not need to bleed the brake system. As explained above the Kuryakyn kit comes with stuff to tie off and hide the old shifter parts.
Had to drop in , Whoever put my forwards on was a dumb ***. They used red locktight to put the stock shifter peg on. When I went to change it out, I followed the channel lock usage advice, and snapped the damn thing. Thats when I noticed an *** used red instead of blue. A heat gun and vice grip on the little nub comming out the opther side was needed for a clean removal. What an adventure to by used. hahaha
