Default Removing Fat Bob Passenger Pegs

Anyone removed the passenger pegs on their Fat Bob? The right side is no problem, but the left side peg bracket also supports the chrome belt guard.

I did try to search the threads on this issue with no luck...man the search feature sucks.

I just took the belt guard off. Looks better, and more mechanical. Plus, I can't understand why in the 5uck they put chrome crap on a black bike. I read somewhere that there is a part or clip that will retain the belt guard, if thats what you want. Sorry, no part number...

I've just looked at my rear peg mounts (07 FXD ). The belt gaurd mount is part of the peg mount. You wont be able to refit the gaurd unless you have the original part anyway. The mounting bolts are a different length as well.

I don't know if the '08's are different, but the non-footpeg belt guard bracket part number is 49216-06 for the '06 and '07' Dynas. ($9.90 list)

The plastic plug for the bolt holes on the right side is part number 740. ($.30 each list)

When you are removing the bolts on the left footpeg bracket, use the shortest torx bit you have (or a very thin headed ratchet). Why? Because the head of your ratchet will be hitting the top of the drive belt and as you loosen the bolts, the ratchet won't go up any further. This was a pain in the ***. Also, the horizontal bolt that holds the front of the beltguard to the bracket is way too tight from the factory. The only way I could get it off without stripping it, was to use a hand-held impact driver. Five or six whacks and it came loose just fine. The right side foot peg bracket on my 2007 Super Glide FXDC came off in about 5 minutes. The left side foot peg bracket took about 45 minutes and some swearing.

Why in the hell is that, plus, the thread size is 20 x larger than the allen wrench size!

Good advice! Wish I would have had it when I removed my rear pegs. I ended up stripping it and had to grind the head off the bolt.
