I'm shopping for bags for my '05 Dyna Superglide, and I've got the turn signal relocation kit coming. Now, I want my saddlebags bolted on, and I don't need them to be "quick release". After having sidebags on my last two bikes, I know I won't ever need to take them off. I don't really want to spend $150 on something like Easy Brackets when I don't really need them to come off. So, if I buy some bags that aren't made by HD, can I use the HD saddlebag mounting kit? The part number for my bike is 92025-09, but I have no idea what that kit actually is.
I really like Leatherneck Jim's Tomcat bags for the Dyna, if I buy those bags and the HD mounting kit, will that work?
My bro-in-law has some River Road bags (inexpensive synthetic but durable and nice looking) on his Wide Glide, and we hard mounted his by just using a flat piece of aluminum on the inside of each along with some universal saddlebag supports and longer bolts. They are throw-over type, so we just unlaced and folded down the overlap part and secured it behind the bags with some velco. They look as good as any, and he can still take them off if he wants (or go back to throw-over style since the bags aren't altered). I think I have some pics on my ofice computer-I'll post them tomorrow.
I used the Willie and Max quick brackets $50 and a set of Willie and Max compact slant bags $110, removed the yoke and used fender washers inside the bags to permantly mount them. I know they are a bit small for this bike but I didn't want to go too big, if I had to do it again i'd go up a size.
