cam cover question

Default cam cover question

does it require draining the oil to remove the cam cover... I feel it doesn't but am unsure...

nope.

just take it off.

you'll need a new gasket and the torque sequence to put it back on though...

No thats where ponts used to be no oil

You will lose some oil when you take it off but dont think you need to drain it.

I had mine drained when I took mine off because I was changing all the covers and still it made a mess.

Yep, same here. I don't know if there would have been more oil if I hadn't already drained it.

If you can do this, put the wheels on peice of wood about a 1/2 inch thick with the jiffy stand on the ground. This will cause the bike to lean a little bit more causing the oil to drain out of the cover to the engine case, it's not much oil but enough to make a mess, a old drain pan to catch the dribbles would be good too.

Put some rags under the cover and just take off - will lose like couple tablespoons of oil.

Are you taking off the cone..or just the "points" cover? Points cover no oil...its empy. The cone is a different story
