does it idle high right after u start up the cold engine and is it efi? if yes, then it's normal, that is the auto choke working, eventually it'll go down. If it still idles high after the engine hits its normal working temp, then take it back to your service dealer.
so much easier with the carbie, only by turning this small pin behind the carb to lower the idle rpm. still can hear that "potato" sound though, but i dont want it idle at too low rpm, it would just stall.

It needs to idle at 1000 mark if you want that potato sound a Stage 11 upgrade will give you that and some more pep thrown in. If you run a low idle speed you will damage engine if its a FI 96ci.
Hmmm. Glad I read this thread. I was wondering about this too. Mine idles high when I start it but drops down after riding awhile. It's still doesn't idle as low as my neighbors 98 Fatboy.
So after the 1000 mile service, installation of the SE Stg.1 A/C, download of new map... it probably is idling at about the same point... maybe a few rpm less (no tach, can't be precise), but it sounds different, and feels a bit different also.... to the good side Nice throaty growl now, out of my V&H Straightshots (w/quiet baffle).
My seat of the pants perspective is telling me I'm getting just a little bit more torque out of it. Between the service, the new intake & filter and switching over to all synthetic, this is no surprise.
