Default Rocker covers for fxdbi

Anyone know where i can get replacement rocker covers for the street bob? Chrome or even wrinkle black would be better than those dull stock ones.

I agree, the polished just doesn't look too great. I'm replacing all the polished parts on my bike with chrome or black powdercoat. I'm going to take mine off and have them powdercoated or chromed. I figure after I get the rest of the bike done I can determine what will look better.

Harley's website has them listed. I was just looking at them earlier.

I feel the same way. I want to drop a few chrome details on my (vivid black) Bob in the "less is more" vein. I've bolted on the ol' wrinkle black finned derby cover, finned headbolt bridge, star early 60's emblems, smoked marker lenses and all that looks pretty groovy (understatement!). What I want to do now, is to highlight that beautiful lump with a touch of light. On the right side, I love the football aircleaner cover and pushrods (now you can see 'em with that nastya55 airfilter backing plate removed - SE St1). The left side does look purposeful in a hefty sort of sense - but a bit of extra chrome to compliment or accent the horn would be neat. I think chromed rockers are the way to go for me... but I've got some reservations:

Can the rocker covers be removed/replaced with the motor in-situ without recourse to special tools? There doesn't appear to be a great deal of clearance between the heads and the frame spine. Can rocker cover removal be achieved without too much hassle when the tank is removed? Are gaskets easily available/necessary/effective once the factory "seal" is breached?

Any help or comments, as always, appreciated.

Post script
Y'know, the reason why I bought this motorcycle in the first place is that it was practically "there" - you know, if I sat down and wrote a list of what I really wanted in a HD and how it would all sit together, I would have described a StreetBob, more or less, as it has rolled off the assembly line. Which is the reason I bought one the first time I saw one in the metal (those cunning sods at HD had clearly known _exactly_ what buttons _I_ (and a lot of folk here ) needed pressing to get me to sign).

So why is it I need to tweak and mess with a motorcycle which is jaw droppingly handsome straight outta the crate? That pages in that P&A book are laced with some sort of crack, I'll wager...

I have just finished replacing the rocker covers with black on my wife's streetbob, there is no problem with clearance and you would require a reasonable tool selection.

Thanks RoadTrain. How did you achieve that gloss black finish on your wife's SB? Did you use the original polished covers and paint them?

Hi Atomicrat, I purchaced a set of polished covers on ebay and painted them with VHT satin black. I've used this paint on alot of engine cases without any problems but you will need to etch prime the covers first.
