How is the ride of the 2007 Street Bob? Is this bike meant for riding around town or can it be comfortable riding 200 or 300 mile trips in a day? Would it be as comfortable as a Dyna low rider?
Is there anything else I should know about the Street Bob?
I took a 200 mile road trip a couple of weeks ago on my 07 street bob. I had a great time. I went without a windshield, which was OK. I have a full face helmet, and thats 90% of the thing. The tank blocks a lot of the wind. Good thing, too, cuz you get a lot of buffeting from a windshield. I think the stock seat is fine but a lot of people use aftermarket seats. I have both passenger pegs and highway pegs, which allows you to shift around a little. That would be an argument for a low rider if your bike doesn't have those.
The bike runs like a champ at highway speeds. Vibration is minimal except on the passenger pegs. There's a throttle lock that takes some pressure off your throttle hand. Make sure the shocks are adjusted for your load, that makes a big difference on bumpy roads.
Not much difference between street bob and lowrider, depends on which seat and bars you like.
The Dyna is like an oversized standard; you're kinda out there in the elements but if that's your thing you might like it.
I demo rode an 08 Street Bob, I liked it. To me it felt all I would need is forward controls and or highway pegs. I would love to see a
blue one, anyone got a picture?
I have not spent any extended time on a low rider so I cannot compare. I could spend all day on my Bob without too much problem at all. Riding two up with luggage my GF 400 miles is no problem. Everyone is different I suppose.
I took delivery of my '08 street bob mid march of this year and I've got close to 7000 miles on it so far. One of the things I changed even prior to delivery was adding a wimpshield and swapping the seat for a Mustang wide solo and put a mustang pillion on the back as I very rarely ride two up. With that change made I have no problem riding 300 to 400 miles at a time (with appropriate pit stops ). I could easily do more but so far the trips have been fairly local. Realize, too, that I'm pushing 64 so I don't have the stamina and tolerance I had when I started riding 48 years ago.
I also put on V&H short shot slipons and Nightriders XiED enricheners (big difference) and added some inexpensive bags. So, in a nut shell, the Bob can be whatever you want it to be. I'll be heading across the country next summer from West Virginia to Northern California and back so, for me, it works as a touring bike just as much as it does to take me to the local restaurant or watering hole.
I broke the L5 vertebrae in my back a little over 2 yrs ago, so Im kinda sensative to a rough ride. I have a stock low rider seat on mine around town and its fine. When i change to the mustang for long rides, 300-400 in a day isnt out of the question. Hell, any of the Dynas are good honestly. When I got mine, I really needed a lowrider cause I added the hwy pegs, 2up seat, backrest,ect.. but my dealer was discounting the Bob, but wouldnt on the Low Rider and I like the bars on the Bob better. Plus, I was gonna change the wheels on either bike, so I saved the money and got the Bob. Bottom line...long rides, no problem.
I've got an 08 Bob and have taken a number of all day trips. An absolute blast!!!!
I can live with the stock seat (for now - eventually I'll upgrade to a Mustang). The bike has plenty of power and does great in the curves.
I'd highly recommend a Bob.
I have an 07 Street Bob that I use around town and for local and regional trips. Around town, I usually keep the single seat (stock) and no winshield. If I am going less than 100 miles and don't need overnight stuff, I'll keep it that way.
If I am going longer, I'll put on the quick detach winshield and luggag rack/sissy bar combo and add the passenger pillion to the solo seat. That gives me the pillion and the luggage rack for bags.
I have mid-controls, but have highway pegs for stretching out once out of traffic.
I added Rineheart 2-1's, Arlen Ness Big Sucker, and a PCII with dyno tune, so running on the highway at 70-80 is no problem whatsoever, even loaded.
I wouldn't attempt a two-up ride of more than 150 miles or so as luggage space deteriotes when adding a passenger.
The solo stock seat begins to get annoying around 100 miles, so I'll take a quick stop if I need to. Have to stop around 160 for gas anyway (usually a gallon or so left at that point).
I would consider changing the seat if I can figure out a way to find out which one feels good other than someone else's opinion!
And I may add forward controls at some point, but even though I am 6' 2" with a 34 inch inseam the mids don't bother me as long as I can use the highway pegs when i need to.
Great bike for me. I did a 900 mile round-trip to Ashville, NC this summer, like butter!
If I was going to do lots of longer rides, I would add a tourer to the garage.
