Do you use the same oil in the primary chaincase lubrication as the tranny. Seems like 75/90 gear oil is what I find recommended on the oil forum. I have a 2008 Street Bob and want to do most of the 1000 mile service myself.
Your bikes always look so classic bobber, very cool.
I will keep the punch trick in mind when I take the derby cover off.
I'm getting ready to do my 1000 mile service also. I'm going with synthetic oil. Is there any problem with doing a wet change and going to synthetic, and having the amount of regular oil left in there after the draining in with the syn? Or do I need to do something extra to get that 1/2qt out of there?
There are systems to help you flush out old oil.
Hate to even mention the word CORS in this thread (considering how it spun out on the other forum/thread), but we talked about oil flush systems over on "1K DIY" in the General Forum
Note that I haven't tested either of these systems so my info is entirely anecdotal, but Scavenger's website has several video clips that make the process a bit clearer.
changed oil in all 3 holes last weekend. One thing I wish I woulda had is a socket type oil filter wrench. Was hoping the strap wrenches I use on the cars was going to work. I could'nt quite fit them in there. Ended up grabbing the end of the filter with my custom "big azz channel loc" oil filter wrench. It was ugly but it worked.
A second set of hands comes in real handy for alot of different reasons if you're doing the full 1k.
