Just finished changing the upper sliders to stainless steel ones I got with the tin set. Kind of surprising to me how it didn't seem to take but about 1-1/2 hrs from start to finish--had to take the whole thing apart and slide the fork tube out of the triple trees to get the old one off and put the new one on!

I am thinking of changing out the rear fender for an old FL style ... actually toying with the idea of getting a FLSTN (Deluxe) fender and 'making' it fit. I love the tombstone and the close-in bullet turn signal mounting bar. I saw a vivid black one on e-bay with tail light and turn signals included I am really coveting. I think that would be a good solution for when I install the reproduction FLH bags ... will tie the whole look together.

I have ordered a engine guard, the black powdercoated one. I still don't have lowers, but if I don't win a bid on e-bay, I may end up buying them from Zanotti ... the vented lowers in primer finish are $355. Probably just use them for riding in the winter when it's most likely to rain. We'll see.

I'll end up having a Ultra Classic Super Glide that strips down to a Fat Glide ... that's my concept anyway ... it feels good to be making some progress toward my goal.

Thanks for the kind words, guys!

Oh, someone asked how it rides ... about the same as before, except I don't have as tight a turn radius (only affects me in the driveway and parking lot). The nice thing about the big front wheel is it isn't affected by grooved pavement or seams in the roadway, etc. You can still feel them (not as much), but doesn't grab your wheel and force you to deal with it. Still corners great and feels solid; brakes about the same.

Priest what engine guard did you order ? Im thinking about getting one and it looks like you have the same style floorboards as i do. Just not sure what would fit with the boards. Im kinda partial to the lindby bars but would go with another if it wont fit right

Well It 6 am and im off to ride a bit of route 6 acrossed pa for the weekend :-)

Peace

The engine guard I ordered is Harley-Davidson Part # 46549-03, Gloss Black Engine Guard Kit for '97 - '08 Touring models. I was advised (probably incorrectly) by my local stealer that the lower fairings would only fit the Touring models' engine guard.

I measured the dimensions of a friend's Ultra Classic and I think I should be able to make it work. The vertical dimension from the mounting tab at the top of the frame to the lower mounting points is about the same. The only thing is that because I've mounted floorboards, the distance between my lower mounting brackets is 13" vice 11" on the engine guard. I guess that tells me that I'll need 1" spacers on each side! (LOL) I'm sure I'll figure something out.

The lower fairing I am referring to is the one that comes stock on the Ultra Classic H-D P/N 58854-05 (in primer finish) ... they can be color matched to pretty much any color the MoCo has out there. See attached photo.
