Tire manufacturers have different standards.... What are you looking for?

Dunlop or Continental - Good all around wear... fair wet weather handling...

Metzler - Great wet traction compound... Lousy wear characteristics... Fantastic grip on the twisties

Pirelli - See Metzler ... Worse wear characteristics...

It depends on how hard you ride. I really like to hammer turns so I use the Metzlers or Avon Venom. The Avon Venoms wear really fast but stick like glue.

I've used Avon Roadrunners for many years and they've proven to be superior wet weather traction. I hear Venoms and Metzler 880's are good also. If you don't ride in the rain then go with Dunlops for the extended wear.

I have Metzeler(yes, this is the correct spelling) 880's on my Low Rider, and will never buy another brand of tire. Getting the same mileage out of these as the Dumlaps(On purpose). Once you try them you won't use Dumlaps again.

I have always replaced my tires with what came on the bike. I have run the Dunlop factory tires for many years without problem or incident. I get good to excellent mileage out of them, and their handling caracteristics have never been an issue with my kind of riding.

Regards,

Bill

I just replaced by back tire with the same original OEM. They handle well enough in the wet and dry and I got over 14,000 miles from the back tire and the front is still going strong.

What RudeDog said.....Add another vote for the Avon Roadrunners front and rear. On the Wide Glide I use a 90/90-21 Avon instead of the factory MH90-21 size. It's a tight fit with the fender but the handling is better.
