Default Chain Tensioner Talk...

Has anyone had to replace their chain tentioner at early mileage? If so, about what mileage was it replaced?
Even if it wasn't replaced at an early mileage, if anyone replaced theirs please post around what mileage they did.
And was there any signs that it was going??

I want to get mine checked before my warranty ends. Thanks for the info fellas.

Replaced my cam chain tensioners at 21k, I believe I could have gone another 10-15k miles on the originals. While the work was in progress I had some aluminum covers replaced with chrome, this was on a silver engine and 02 FXD. The primary chain tensioner was replaced with a M6 auto tensioner a couple of years ago, no wear on the shoe, it smoothed some of the shifting issues and the loud shifts.

25K on mine. They would have gone farther. I've posted pictures of them for you. From what I understand, this problem is hit or miss. Just because mine were not completely shot doesn't mean yours are good.

Did you have to replace the chain as well?

Nope. I was replacing the cams with new chain drive cams, so I did the tensioners while I was in there. Chains stayed.

Replaced my chain cam tensioners on my 01 Wide Glide at about 42,000 miles. Both of them were worn about 3/4 of the way thru.

Replaced them on the Ole Lady's 03 Low Rider at about 40,000, the wear on hers was not quite as bad as on mine.

As was stated earlier, how long they will last is a hit and miss so it's better to be safe than sorry.

In both of our cases, I replaced them with Gear Driven cams to eliminate any problems in the future.

Respects,
Ed
