From looking at the V&H website pictures, my guess is that I'd burn my hand but my primary concern was that I might not ever be able to get the cap off without scratching the pipe. A great idea was checking it hot then cold and see what the difference is.
04fxdwgi mentioned difficulty getting to the tranny. What would I want to get to the tranny when the pipes are hot?
Also, no one mentioned any other exhaust manufacturer. Are the other vendors so inferior that they don't come close to the look and performance of V&H?
V&H is inferior to a thunderheader, D&D , Bassani.
Mine's an 06, but assuming that the set up is the basically the same, I can assure you that the cap will not scratch the pipes when taken off. There is finger room between the cap and pipes, so unless maybe you've got a ring on your finger or you drop the cap, no problem.

Fact is, I always check everything cold. Don't feel like leaving layers of skin on pipes when I should have checked everything before the ride started. Once you do the oils change a few times, you know how much went in and is close enough to wait till everything cools down again to check. I never assumed too many folks checked everything "hot", guess I never anticipated doing that... My Bad.
kind of off the topic. I notice several on this thread have the BR 2-1 with passenger pegs. How is the fit with that exhaust? I have heard people need to put a spacer under the passenger pegs, any truth to this?

your pegs are mounted to the swingarm. with you having 11" shocks, You have a built in spacer already. Hopefully it will be enough if it is true that others have had to add a spacer to their peg mount.
