i just had an idea though, instead of hammering it out, what if you just decided on the overall shape, cut it out, took the cut out to the other side, traced and cut, then re-welded each cut out on the opposite side.
course, the dish shape might not be right but...might be a good start though.
other than that...you would need to have a custom tank made.
I've seen somebody on TV do it the way you desrcibe...can't remember the show.
.
Being new to this site and livin in the UK its the first time Ive seen bikes with knee indents on the sides of the tank and I like the look.
Id hate to be told some poor $od had his bike fall on him
Any ideas as to maker and availability?
kevin, I have no idea who sells a tank like you are describing.
For my 06 FXD,
I bought a wrecked tank, and wrecked it some more.
On the Fuel Injected machines there is only one and a quarter inch
to work with before making contact with the fuel pump.
I welded quarter inch round stock for shape,
(and more depth),
then beat it in, then All Metal filler.
mud i love your tank man... that is the RIGHT way to do tank dents... the way i did them is not the way i would recomend... round bar and fill is the right way... yours looks perfect! my favorite part of your ride no question!!!!
