getting ready to put bike away other day undid the shift linkage as in past in order to get oil filter out.went to put it back on tightend the bolt snap.just glad I had another shift rod I bought off member on this brd few yrs ago from a wg.I was thinking it be same length but it was shorter but it works just fine all had to do was readjust the foot piece assembly differnt angle and theres plenty of room where the rear of contoll arm doesnt hit the primary.also the + side of it I dont believe I will have to undo the rod no more seeing the arm part is more forwards back to primary should be able to sneak filter out next time.
So anyone wondering if you need the long shift rod to use on the 06 forwards nope

It will work, but with additional effort and stress on the heim joints. For the most ease of motion, the shift shaft at the tranny and the shaft at the foot control should be as close to parallel as possible. Just keep a close eye on it next year because that front heim joint is going to take a lot of stress.
