i installed these springs with regular fork oil and the were a little stiff for my weight (175). I cut the spacer about a 1/2 inch to decrease the preload and the stiffness eased up. This also lowered the bike about an inch. I have works performance shocks on the rear. Handles great now.
I run Progressive fork springs (with heavier fork oil) along with Ted Tine shocks, and it eats curves so much better now on top of eliminating the diving during hard braking. But I'm actually thinking of going a different route on the forks as these don't seem to handle rough roads so well (get stiff so quick it feels like I don't have enough travel). On smooth roads they're fine. They're definitey an improvement over stock.
Congratus on the new setup. I am currently running works springs up front have no decided on the rears yet. Makes you wonder why HD does'nt do this straight from factory.
I have the same set up Progressive 412s HDs in the rear and their standard length springs up front with 15wt oil.I like the firmer ride and if I had to do it again I'd go with 20wt.The combination of the two along with dropping the front about 1/2" by sliding up the tubes has all but eliminated the high speed wobble I was getting with the stock suspension.
I have looked on Progressive's web site and can not find the "standard" length front spring?? I had the standard length on my other bike and really liked them..
I had Progressive 440's on the back and decided to go with Progressive springs on the front, I used 1" shorter for a more slammed look. The ride is significantly better and I don't seem to have the brake "dive" issue everyone else mentioned.
Davidsdad,
From progressive's website home page, select 'Product Search' then click your year, make and model. This should bring up a new pop up window that has a front suspension section listing front spring (11-1525) and lowering kit (10-1566).
Maybe you have a pop up blocker that is blocking the pop up window?
