Default How low can you go.

Hello Everyone, My wife is looking at getting a sportster 1200 low, it fits her perfect. I would think she would be fine on a Low Rider Dyna. According to specs the Dyna sits lower. She can ride a dirt bike really well and can be agressive on it so confidence on the street should be no problem. The only thing about the Dyna is that the primary cover makes contact with her leg and it makes the bike feel to wide. She,s 5 foot 3 and 120 lbs. My question is this, If I put a narrower seat, reach seat, different bars that pull closer to her and a lowering kit will it fit her better. It,s just that I can,t go to a dealer and have them make those changes on a new bike just to see if it works. Like I said she loved sitting on the sporty and the Dyna felt good but to wide to instill confidence. We all know the Dyna is a better highway bike and the sporty is not as stable or smooth. I rode a Sporty and it was fun but not as nice as the Dyna, there was no comparing the 2 bikes. Thanks for any input.

My experience with changing seats is that it really can drastically affect how you sit on or "in" the bike. Changing the seat on my bike put me much lower and also made me more comfortable as i found my stock fatboy seat had nothing in the way of back support. I don't think it would need lowering shocks if you got a low profile seat. As far as the primary it is jsut a matter of getting used to it for her if she already rides dirt bikes. In the long run you should get her what she wants.

It sounds from everything you said if you dont buy a Dyna now you will be back in 6 months to get one, so id would go ahead and get what you want now.

Like stated above a seat can make a world of difference. There are alot of seats that will lower her quite a bit. You could also look at the street bob as it has the same seat height as the low rider but with the mini apes would be able to adjust the bars more.

I have a lowrider that what as stock height when I got but I've since put 11" shocks in the back and I bought a Corbin "close gunfighter" seat, both of which have changed my seating position drastically. Anyone that sits on bike, including females, have commented on how low and close to the handlebars it is now. My buddy is only 5'5" and he reaches with room to spare now.

the lower the seat height the wider she can put her legs out to overcome the primary.
you definately can get the bike lower with 11" shocks and 1-2" lowering springs as well. my bike is real low compared to when it was stock. My mustang tripper seat is very comfortable too.

I say buy the bike she wants. My Bob has the 11" Progressives and the LePera bare bones and it sits real low but that's beside the point if she likes the Sportster that's the one I'd buy.My wife been riding for years she's around 5"2" and even though she has no problem touching the ground on my bob she doesn't want to ride it. It's not the height that bothers her it's the weight. And no she doesn't like Sportsters either she rides a lowered Suzuki SV650.
