Hi all, have a question on my 06 streetbob 88ci. The other day I was in traffic going home from work in the morning and I got a little concerned about how long is considered too much heat when running at idle basicly. I then begun to wonder, when I fire my scoot up I usually get my gear on then ride off which probably is 2,3,4 minutes. Guy at work told me when firing up, only allow it 30 seconds to a minute of run time. Thanks for any help with my question.
okay cool, thanks for the replies. Also, if I'm in stop and go traffic and lane splitting isn't gonna happen, is there a point where you just shut the bike off and wait for traffic to start moving then ride up 200 feet to shut it off again.
Thanks.

I've had to shut down the bike a few times in really heavy traffic, but only when my legs felt like they were about to combust. The temp light wasn't even on yet.

Must be something new as my 06 doesn't have it...Leave a quart of 20w50 oil beside your bike this winter. On a cold day go out and take the top off and pour the oil into a cup just to see the consistency of it cold.
If you are going to be sitting in rush hour traffic, when its 100 degress or so for several months in the summer, you may wish to get a JAGG, 10 row oil cooler. There have been several very good tech articles in American Iron Magazine about these in the Oct & Nov issues.
Anytime the air temperature is say about 55 or less, you'll need to block off the oil cooler with a piece of cardboard (unless you have the optional thermostat).
