Prospect, I just got a pair of HD hard bags like yours. I am having problems figuring out how to mount them and make them removable. I would like to use barebacks. Any ideas. Joe Knapp any ideas? This is why I am repainting the bike again?
The GRADE of the bolt refers to the material hardness. This is verrrrrrryyyyyyyy very important. You would not want the bolts snapping off sending the bag sliding down the highway. If you cannot find Grade 8 bolts at the hardware store find a hardware supply house in your area. Most large cities have at least one.
I used the HD laydown license plate kit. It gets rid of the signals in the bracket. After that its four bolts on and off. I used steel alloy allen caphead bolts.
OK So now my saddle bags are easily removable. The only problem I am having now is the signal lights. For some reason on my bike with the hard bags the HD Laydown frame with signal light bar the bag lids will not clear the lights.
Does anyone have any ideas.
Also Icecap if when you take your bags on and off do you swap the entire bolt assy? Or do you have another type of system.
Here's a photo of the strut with the bags off. I use a washer for the front and the teardrop cover for the back with some bolts I got for ACE. I reuse the backing nut plate that came in the hard bag kit.
So after the harley layback didnt work due to the hard bag lid not clearing. I came up with this.... I had seen it on these boards prior...Cost me $3.00 for a pack of 4 L brackets. ( I have 2 spares )
