The arlen ness fairings and brackets are CHEAP!! I went through this several years back. I had actally bought the ness fairing but hadn't put it on yet. I saw a fairing i wasn't familiar with on a Bandidos FXR and got to talking to him about it. It was a Rifle Roadster. It looked so much better than the ness that i ordered one. It's stronger with better mounting brackets and interchangeable height windshields. Since then several people have seen the one on my bike and got one themselves. Also, for just a bit extra, it comes painted gloss black.
Do the 1/4 fairings cause wind buffeting like a windshield does? I'd really like some type of shield for the all the highway riding I do, but I hate buffeting and all the BS that comes with trying to solve it!!!

if anybody could help with this old old question, I'd be much obliged.
If the 1/4 fairing provides decent wind protection and doesn't have this buffeting problem, I'd lean towards that versus a night rod style headlight cowl

This is just my expierience,I had an FXDXT with the Harley 1/4 fairing,& the buffeting was chronic, the Screan was adjustable but never got it right.
One of the main reasons I eventually sold it
The detachable screen on my FXD is marginally better,so it's off most of the time

With the fairing alone the wind hit me around the top of my shoulders.
When I put the Laminar Lip on it brought the airstream up around eyebrow level.
I'm 6'3" for reference.
I usually wear a 3/4 helmet w/ a faceshield because I still get bugs and crap in my face. I think the fairing/lip may direct more of the road stuff up than going without anything in the front. Still I prefer it since it punches a good hole in the wind. Also, I don't have much of a problem with buffeting like many complain about with their windshields.
That's a Ness fairing. I guess the Sons of Anarchy trend is in full swing. I'm a little sorry to see it since I've always been a fan of the small fairing on a Dyna (and have been considering getting the detachable H-D one for the last few months), but now I'm probably gonna get tired of looking at them..
I agree because I always liked the fairing for the Harley back when I saw it in the movie black rain. I guess I will have to wait till this whole SOA thing dies down before I get it for my FXDC.

maybe it's just me, but I don't worry about it. If I like something, i like it. Even the highest rated SOA episode gets, what? 5 million viewers? In a country of 300M. If somebody doesn't know you and wants to have some reactive complex about people bearing any resemblance to a mythical television MC then i got nuthin' for 'em.
