Replacement WINDSHIELD for BOB
I have the compact detachable winshield for my street bob, but it is too short for long rides. I am going to tour the Western USA this summer and I am looking for a replacemnt windsheild that will fit the 06 quick detach hardware. even just the sheild itself would be nice if i could take the brackets off the compact and put them on the new one.
I am really trying to save some money though, so I dont want to buy another Harley one. Any ideas?

I , myself is looking for a windshield for my FXDCI. I have looked at Memphis Shades but they don't have the mounts for the newer fork tubes as of yet. That is the only company that has a windshield that big. Check them out at memphisshades.com.
I have a 2006 fxdli with a Memphis slim 17" (solor) and I really like it. It does not have the same moutning system as the harley quick release but it is real easy to R and R. I picked memphis over HD for two reasons, cost and they are harder to steal....
I believe Memphis shades also sells just replacement glass for your HD windshield so maybe the hardware is reusable on a bigger piece of glass. I would recommend callng them and picking their brain........

One thing I've done, is draw a pattern for the size windshield you want. Take the pattern to the local glass shop. Ask them to cut you a windshield in the pattern you give them. They cut it out of Lexan for about $25. Take it home, drill out the holes, mount it up and ride off. Works great. You can add to the length, sides, lowers, what ever you want to do.
According to Dennis Kirk, the Memphis Shades quick change setup is available for 06's:

do it yourself.measure the thickness off your windsheild ok.go get a sheet of lexan.about 50.00 for a 4x8 sheet.dont take the plastic covering off until your done.make a templet of the size u want.laid it on top of the lexan, trace it with a marker.use a jigjaw, with high speed, small tooth blade.cut it out and drill your mounting holes.then take the plastic covering off of it.and take a deburring tool or knife, and deburr the edges.then take a propane torch, you buy at hardware store for 10.00 and go around the edges and smooth the edges.dont catch it on fire, just run the flame over the edges, kinda quickly without stopping in one spot.the lexan will form the bow of your brakets for the contour look.so for about 65.00 u can make about 5 windsheild for your mounts with a 4x8 sheet of lexan.and with touring like u want to do,you will be replacing alot and wont have to pay crazy stealer or aftermarket prices, for replacemnet sheilds.if you have the mounts why buy another.you can even have the bottom come down a little to block wind off legs to.do it yourself, its easy.and then you can say look at my custom windshield.thats all the aftermarket and stealer does.
