OK I gotcha now. From what the mechanic told me I was under the impression that the earlier Dynas had them as well. The reason he gave for taking them out is noted in my first post. My brother has an old shovelhead and I've helped him pull the tranny in that. It diffinately had pins.
I've heard that if you've had to replace this bearing once, it's likely that it will go again at regular intervals. If that is the case then misalignment looks to be the cause.
Anyone confirm this? I want to hear you say 'I replaced mine and had no further trouble'
I replaced mine at 8000 miles - snap ring was in correct position.
Ok,
I'm not a smart man so I have to ask this.
I've got 17,000+ on my 06 Street Bob right now.
I'm getting ready to replace the bearing for the first time, just because it was supposed happen at 15K (weather was to nice to put it in the shop)
I was planing on going ahead and have them do the 20K service at the same time.
1. Is there a need to still replace the bearing? The white letter states that replacement is no longer needed at 15K.
2. How do you know, besides shavings in the lube, that he bearing is going out?
I hear nothing, I see nothing, I know nothing.
If you can help I thank you. If I don't have to put it in the dealer, I can/will do the 20K service myself.

I'm not too smart either, but here's my take ( <.02 worth).
No need to change every 15K.
I had Had fluids changed at 5K and no shavings in oil.
