I've heard that if you've had to replace this bearing once, it's likely that it will go again at regular intervals. If that is the case then misalignment looks to be the cause.
Anyone confirm this? I want to hear you say 'I replaced mine and had no further trouble'
I replaced mine at 8000 miles - snap ring was in correct position.
only had to have 1 replaced 7800 k, 20k now all good!

I've got 17,000+ on my 06 Street Bob right now.
I'm getting ready to replace the bearing for the first time, just because it was supposed happen at 15K (weather was to nice to put it in the shop)
I was planing on going ahead and have them do the 20K service at the same time.
1. Is there a need to still replace the bearing? The white letter states that replacement is no longer needed at 15K.
2. How do you know, besides shavings in the lube, that he bearing is going out?
I hear nothing, I see nothing, I know nothing.
If you can help I thank you. If I don't have to put it in the dealer, I can/will do the 20K service myself.
you'll know it.. sounds like a old metal roller skate.. your primary oil drain plug will look like a metallic snow cone.
not broken , don't fix it.

Mine went...
...at 3900 miles. Replaced under warranty. Now have 10K and no problems (knock wood). I'd read in earlier threads of folks on their 3rd or 4th bearing...that sounds like a misalignment issue. Wasn't sure how mine was gonna fare, so I opted to extend my warranty another 4 years just before my 4200 mile roadtrip this last Sept. I'm cautiously optimistic about further IPB issues; now, just waiting for my stator self-destruct issue to occur.
