I picked up the quick detach standard height clear windshield to fit my Bob on Saturday. Put the squeeze clamps on it last night and this a.m. I put it on the bike and road about 120 to the beach for some fishing. It was probably in the low to mid 50's when I left so I had to wear a ski mask but with that on the ride was ok. As far as riding with a windshield for the first time, I'd say it probably cuts out about 65% of the wind and the wind's roar in your ears. On a cold and mostly windy morning like this one I couldn't have ridden without it. I was wondering what height WS I needed as I top out at around 6'4". The standard height is plenty tall to knock the wind over my head. I look right through it as I ride. It's not very wide so there is some wind around it but all in all it's worth it for long trips. Oh yeah, it also caught a large winged bug bullet (approx. 230 grains) that would probably have caught me in the face at 70 mph so add another plus.
I asked the same question and if you read the post from 3/24 I got some great feed back
im five nine and if I slouch i m lookin thru it if I sit straightup im seein over it
which after 300 miles i have found lookin over is better also I took the advice on here
and lowered my clamps all the way down
now i have the same shield as you and I cant figure how your lookin thru it
at 6 4 ???
I mounted mine as far up as it will go. If I sit straight up I do see over it, but in my normal riding position my eyes look straight through about 2 or so inches below the top.
I installed the short detachable one on my bike, I have it all the way up and it works perfect. I find myself just looking over the windshield and get all the protection I need.
Also a lot of my height is in my legs so when I sit it makes a difference. And one other thing "stc13", were you at the Bogue Inlet Pier in Emerald Isle, NC today. Cause when I was standing in the parking lot your exact double walked by us a couple of times wearing a Harley Davidson jacket.
You are suppose to be able to look over the windshield. To each his own though. Its what you like. I look over mine...say about 2-3 inches. Many mornings on the way to work in the dark it fogs over so I wouldn't be able to see through it. The H-D accessory book has info about proper W/S height near the front of the book.
no it wasnt me but we do go there every year for vacation we get a house on 8th and salther path road
love it there... want to retire there
you know theres alot fat bald goteed guys running aroud lookin like me
I agree with atrox on that height thing trying lowering it and see how it is for you
its kinda like havin bi focals... of course youll have it off in another 30 days
My windshield stays on all the time cause the wind always blows and the bugs get worse as it gets warmer. I look through mine and I like it that way, I'm 6' 2".
