Today when I was haggling with the owner of the dealership about my pending purchase, I overheard the sales manager talking to another customer who was also looking at the Dyna models. He told the guy that unless you were going over 70 mph on the Interstate, you'd never use 6th gear.
Is that true? Is this thing geared so tall that 6th is useless below 70 mph?
it is about 65mph for me. But really nice for the big slab because I like crusing at 75mph at 2500 rpm. BTW, my bike is stage 1 and I am getting 48mpg at 75mph with the 6 speed.

Fatbob with rush pipes, K&N free flowing filter and Xieds. Sits quite happily at 100kph (63mph) and pulls like a train, from that speed, even with two up.
At 70 in 5th gear I am hitting 3000rpm. When I shift into 6th it drops to 2500. I may grab 6th at 65, but not any earlier than that. The owners manual has shifts at 15, 25, 35, 45, and 55 mph, but you are definitely lugging it at those shift points, IMO.
i use 6th at 60mph,or less on flat ground! At 50 it chugs on flat ground! 55 ok but my bike loves 60, 70 screw that way to high! Unless im racing up a hill!
Usually only shift into 6th gear above about 68 mph.It will ride ok below this speed in 6th gear, but i can tell the motor is not FREED up like i feel it should be...Slow speed in a high gear is VERY hard on pistons, cranks, etc. These TC-96 motors like to wind up a bit in my opinion.I have been riding motor cycles over 30 years and have never had any tranny problems, piston or crank problems etc.Typically when i ride with other folks i notice they shift ALOT sooner than i do.To each his own i suppose.
