Default Question about XIEDs

I remember reading about the TC96s running too lean in stock form when they first came out. Is this still a problem for 09 or has Harley got it worked out? Bottom line: Are XIEDs still a good idea on an 09 model?

(I've never had lean running issues on my fuel injected Sportster, so I know Harley can "get it right.")

I was just over looking at the Xied web site. How do you determine which one to get? The 13.8, 14.0, or 14.2?

Your best bet is to call Nightrider and talk to Steve about your needs. He has always been very helpful and willing to answer all questions.

I'll probably do that. But given that it's getting almost impossible to find gas around here that isn't 10% ethanol, 13.8 is probably the way to go. Stoichiometric for pure gasoline is 14.7 and for pure ethanol it's 11.1. Since no pump gas is pure (it all has additives in it which lower the stoich), setting the fuel injection to run at 14.7 is too lean right off the bat. Throw in ethanol and stoichiometric for the blend drops even more, making 13.8 to 14.0 probably about right.

Have been running the 13.8`s on my '07 Wide Glide for about 12,000 miles with V&H Big Radius and Ness 'Big Sucker with no problems. Mileage at about 44 or so. Pulls stronger all the way through the range with quicker, smoother throttle response and easier rolling on to the throttle in 6th gear at lower revs.

If you don't want to give up any gas mileage and don't mind the way an EPA bike runs then don'f buy them. But if you are like me and want your bike to run like it was designed to run get the 13.8s. I had just sent my 14.0s back so I could try the 13.8s and one of the mechanics drove it and when he came back he thought it had cams or at least a dyno tune. My bike runs great with the V&H slipons, SE Stage 1 AC and the 13.8 XIEDS being my only mods.

+1 for the 13.8 XiEDs. I've been running mine for close to 7k miles and have had exactly the same results. As previously stated, if you have any questions don't hesitate to call Steve at Nightrider. He'll give you the straight scoop and get as technical as you want.
