Good Afternoon everyone,
I have a 99 fxd that my daughter rides and as it sits right now it is a 88",SE cleaner, stock head pipes with SE II slip ons with BCT baffles or V&H Short Shots are available. I would like to give her some more get up and go but I don't want to go overboard with the build. I am thinking of boring the stock cylinders to 95", and a cam change. I will leave the heads stock and I also have a 42 Mikuni that can be used. What cams would you guys recommend and what pistons to go along with the cams, flats tops or high comp.?
P.S. She rides solo and weighs in at 100 lbs.
Thanks TT
I just had my 02FXD upgraded to 95" using the S/E cyl., pistons and the S/E 203 cams. Had inner and outer cam bearings changed out and while you are in there why not replace the cam tension shoes?. The motor has about 100 miles on it since the upgrade and what I can tell it was worth it. The cams come in just under 2500 rpm's building hp and torque as the speed increases, at 100 lbs.she best be hanging on tight. The kit was offered at half price from the dealer, couldn't turn it down. Good luck.
I think the right shop will be able to get plenty of power with just cams, DTT ignition module, and the current air and pipes...of course a good dyno tune as well.
high 80"s in HP and mid to upper 90's in torque. BCT baffles will be the best option for her 2-2 exhaust. go to your top performance shop and have them choose the right cams and other options for the build...If your in Fl. www.cyclerama.com...
Yes, a good set of cams will work great for your daughter! Keeping the duration short with a fast closing intake will keep good torque. Look at some of the 510 lift cams, they should all have these characteristics for short duration.
I ran 203's for awhile and the low end torque was great. My 211's are better for mid range, both are fun and can be found cheap on ebay - great bang for the buck. I went with high compression pistons and have had no problems (12k miles). If you put a stronger clutch spring on then add an easy pull clutch for about 10 bucks and it will make it manageable for her.
