Question about how mufflers mount...

They stretch every time you use them. I've found if you don't over-tighten them they can be reused at least 3 times before they've stretched to the point they won't tighten enough.
That's on a Sportster, where the only function of this clamp is really to seal the muffler/head pipe connection. On a Dyna, where this clamp is an integral part of what keeps the muffler on the bike, using a fresh clamp every time may be more critical.
