Default Shocks

Hello Again!

I have another question for the board. I just got this bike:

http://dallas.craigslist.org/ftw/mcy/951058843.html

And I brought it back to base, and took it for a little ride, I had only gone up and down the street a few hundred feet to make sure it tracked ok. It did, so anyways I got back and went for a ride and damn near ripped the footpeg off on my first turn.

I don't think the shocks on it are stock, and I wanted to know if anyone could tell me what the stock length was? These 12.5" are eye-let to eye-let.

Thanks.

Those are the stock shocks if they are 12 1/2.

It is fairly easy to drag the pegs on these.

I think thats about right. My LR's were 11.75. I just changed them to 11" progressives. Havent been able to ride yet with the weather here in NY. Good luck with the new bike. Post some pics.

Judging from the picture, the shocks look stock length which is 12.6"

you can always get longer shocks like the now discontinued FXDX had.

Have you tried cranking up the preload on the shocks?

Are you sure it wasn't the stir-ups that were dragging and not the peg itself?

I bet you dragged the stirrups. I scraped them so bad I had to take them off. I tried moving them up high enough that they were pretty much even with the pegs, but I found that to be uncomfortable. Are you from a sportbike background? If so, yeah, you'll find the pegs VERY easy to scrape

Looks like a nice bike you got there.

Ya, it was the peg, folded up while I was riding and took metal off the outside bottom of them. My other bike is an 03 FXDP, it has longer shocks and didn't drag this early. I was just in a parking lot doing what I consider normal riding around.

I would like to get at an inch higher, two would be even better. I started looking around but it doesn't look like anyone makes like 14"+ shocks for dyna's. I found some 15" shocks for sportsters listed, Progressive 412 15"for 79-04 sportsters, could I put them on, or would they be too weak for the extra weight?

I'm want to get some 412's for my 07 Street Bob. I just bought it and I want to ride with the wife every once and a while. I'm sure she won't ride very often. Together, we will weigh over the listed 225lbs. Should I get the HD shocks or will the standard shock be OK? Will the HD shocks ride rough if it's just me (185lbs)?
