So I have been reading for a few days about the forward controls install. All the old threads were great, just some of the pics did not come up guess cause the threads were old. So I am going to go ahead and try to do the install myself. I guess I would call myself a beginner/ average wrench. I know from what I read its easier to just cut the shaft. I was thinking I was going to do the whole job and pull the outer/inner primary just so I get the experience. From what I read I guess I will have to go out and by a 1/2 torque wrench(only have 3/8), special harley tool that you need, and 30 mm socket. I think I have all the other tools. I am going to order the forward controls tommorrow. Wish me luck. I guess the only good thing is that it is winter and I have another bike to ride if weather clears up so I am in no hurry. So wish me luck and if anyone has anymore pics to post I would be glad to see them. One more thing I have manual so thats a good start.
I installed my fowards earlier this year and the only special tool I used from HD was the service manual. I made my own primary drive locking tool out of a piece of flat steel. Looking at the pic in the manual is was pretty easy. I'm sure you won't have any problems... seems to be plenty of knowledgeable folks here to help... good luck!
You need to replace the inner primary seal bolts which dont come with the kit. Also you should invest in some snap ring pliers, it will make it way easier to take off the clutch adjustment/thrust washer.
I also made a primary locking tool out of flat bar.
When i first got my wifes 2007 super glide i put on the forward controls without pulling the primary so she could ride with them till i had the time to do the whole thing. Without changing the arm on the transmission to the longer one that comes with the kit it is almost impossible to find neutral on the newer bikes.
I am considering using Kury forwards just to avoid removing the primary or modifying the original parts, price diff is not that much. New to Dynas so wondering if there is anything wrong with the Kury kit?

I recently put forward controls on my '03 Low Rider - it took me all of about 45 minutes. I did not remove the shifter shaft - I bought the cover that usually comes with the harley kit. I got the forwards from Chopper Stuff online. My original plan was to install them this way and remove the primary and shift shaft over the winter and put on a new cover plate - but after looking at everything as is and pondering the task ahead, I decided to leave everything be. It looks good as is.
Many people have left the mids on. Iam thinking about just putting the cover on the shift linkage that comes out the front of the primary myself and taking it out later down the road some day. What is that part number do you know?
