Default New FXDC, comparrison/impression (Pics)

Just traded the wifes 07 Nightster on a Sunglo Red FXDC, great deal, MSRP for the Sporty towards the 09 FXDC. I had them change out the rims with a FXD because I did not want spokes and plan to chrome the heck out of the FXD rims.

Power - nice vs my Ultra but not as quick as the Nightster, however, at speed much better.

Ride - No comparrison to the Nightster, night and day so to speak, very nice, smooth. Bike tracks great in turns and on grooved slab. A little wobble but thats from the huge clearview I have hanging on the bars, might cut it down or go back to teh stock sheild for around town and short cruising.

Comfort - Already ordered the Kury forwards from Eastern Perf for $299 + free shipping. Seat seems fine but will need to do a 400 miler before I make my mind up on that.

Looks - I love the color in the sun, more importantly the OL loves it, going to chrome the hell out of this bike. Has the classic Harley look.

Mechanical - Front brake sucks, part because I gave up the floating rotor but that should not be that much of a difference, planning a different rotor ( any ideas here), and Lyndall brake pads. Motor, broke it in yesterday, will switch to Mobil 1 in all theree holes today and again at 1K.

Dislikes - Brakes, Mid Controls

Likes - Everything else (Needs More Chrome)

Parts Added - Windsheild Clearview oversize touring with recurve

Nice review. Your wife doesn't look very tall. Does she really need the forward controls?

No but she won be riding the bike for two more years when last kid leaves house, then she can ride all she wants. If I get killed she gets rich and can marry the pool boy for all I care, however, if she gets killed/injured I am screwed.

Glad you like the new SG.

I came real close to buying a Nightster and as much as I love how they look, I am so glad I got the SG instead.

Congrats on the new FXDC! I went from a '99 1200C to my '08 FXDC and haven't regretted a minute of it. I agree with the power, while she's not as quick as the Sporty, overall, I think that the Dyna has a much better power band. I love the looks as well. There are a lot of Softails and big touring bikes around which makes the Dyna stand out even more. And after going from the small Sporty gas tank to the big tank on the FXDC, wow! I'm 6' and while I liked the fowards on my sporty, I haven't had too much trouble getting used to the forwards, though I have considered the Kurys. One of the reasons is that I put an engine guard on and mounted hi-way pegs. That allows me to stretch out on longer rides, but gives me a little better control in town and through the twisties. I haven't made a huge number of mods to the bike, but did put a National Cycle windscreen on the bike. It's not too big, it keeps most of the crap off me, especially around town and breaks the wind fairly well on the hi-way. I'm still out on the seat, but will probably end up with a Mustang. I had one on my Sporty and loved it. In the mean time I'm using a Pro Pad for longer trips. Finally, I added a set of Cycle Shack slip-ons. I had 'em on the Sporty and am just as pleased with them on the Dyna. I got a set off ebay from American Classic Motors for $146.99 with free shipping.

If you wouldn't mind, let me know what you decide to do about the front brake. I can always use more brake!

Congrats again and welcome to the Dyna family!

Royce, I just finished talking with the owner of Lyndall Racing Brakes (Paul), he informed me that they are coming out with a composite rotor for the FXD rim that will have a 40% increase in stopping power. In the mean time I am ordering the Gold plus pads for front and rear, this will increase stopping power by 30%. new rotor should be available mid Feb

Congrats on the bike and nice review. I fail to see the complaints about the brakes (not just from you) but then I don't really have anything to compare it too. Mine stops fine for me. Definitely agree on the forward controls. Love that color, the only thing I wish HD would do on the non-black FXDC's is color match the battery and electrical covers to the bike. Nothing money can't fix though and it seems you are about to spend quite a bit.

Would like to see that bike again after the rims are chromed. Looking for options myself. I love spokes but I don't have the patience and dexterity to clean them. Thinking about fitting a deuce rear wheel on the back and have it polished (or do it myself) and going with something else on the front or maybe leave it alone as the front spokes are easier to clean anyway. But a set of alloy wheels bathed in chrome isn't a bad option either if the price is right.

Masterblaster, thanks for the info. I'll definitely look into the Lyndall brakes.
