Guys I just got my 09 FXD in October. I am looking at putting Vance and Hines straight shot slip-ons, K&n air filter, and a power commander. i am trying to keep the cost down on my first mod. Does this combo make sense, or is it a waste of money?
First Harley guys...... Thanks
My pic probably gives my preference away. Both are nice pipes though. They are all louder than stock but I was surprised the BR's aren't any louder than they are. They really only scream when you get on the throttle.
I've yet to experience any issues with them pointing at the ground and kicking up dust or dirt in my face. They point down but the also point backwards. I guess if the wind were blowing right....

Not a bad combo if you are talking about a K&N stage 1 a/c kit and not just replacing the filter with a K&N. Even though they advertise all K&N filters as being freer flowing, it does not substitute for a stage 1 air cleaner. If you replace just the filter and program your PCIII to a canned stage 1 setup, it probably won't run right. I assume you are thinking of doing a canned setup since you are looking to keep cost down and probably won't want to put the money into a dyno tune.
The straightshots are nice looking and sound nice too. I was running them before my big radius. I picked them up half price. I couldn't resist a good deal on the big radius though so I replaced them and sold the shots for more than I paid for them.
Thanks for the reply. I did mean the stage 1 air cleaner setup. Is it easy enough to do on my own? I did my 1k service myself. I have the service manual for the Dyna
I really like the look of the short shots. If you put the quite baffles in they sound good and are not too loud.
I only went with the BR 2-1 because you don't see it on every other bike you see, but I did like the short shots.
Short Shots are a great bang for the buck.
I have a set with less that 400 miles on them off of my 09 sitting in my shop, perfect cond., I might want to off load to help pay for front lowering kit and true-track.

Very easy to install the slipons and stage 1 a/c. Probably easy enough to do the PCIII although I've never done it. I hear you can order them preprogrammed for your specific setup from FuelMoto and then it's just plug and play.

Shoot me a price if you want to sell them. I might go that way but still undecided.
If it were me I would go for a 2 into 1 pipe, especially if your after some power gain. Go for the Thunderheader. I had one on my last bike, I'm saving up for another one now. My dealer threw in the Rineharts to seal the deal as they say.

Reason: misspell
I have the black shortshot staggered pipes on my street bob. I love em! When I first installed them from the stock pipes, I thought they were too loud...........! I then quickly slapped myself, thought about what I had just said to myself, washed my own mouth out with soap for what I said and then reminded myself how AWESOME they sound! Sorry, no pics. I'm a new member and not that smart yet.
