Maybe, maybe not.
See lots of bikes using nothing but a catseye brake light above the side mount plate holder.
May go that route also.
Still looking into whether or not it's legal in Pa.

I believe it will work, just like the Nighster with no taillight.

Default Tailight

+1 If Harley can produce a bike with no taillight (Nightster) than how could it be illegal to do the same thing to your bike ?

Thank you all for the replies.
Now I have a few options to consider.

He's right. I was just looking through my 09 JP Cycles catalog last night and they have all kinds of different LED lights that are red or simple red bulbs.

I got a J P Cycles book but was confused with all the ones offered.
Plus I'm not sure if they need a load equalizer or not and how to hook one up.

maniac,

Keep us posted on what you do. I've been thinking of doing the same thing myself.

Just bought the smoked lens kit for my 08 Street Bob and the black LED taillight and want to keep the smoked lenses in the rear.

Was thinking of checking out the local auto parts stores and see if they have anything that will work.

Went ahead and installed the red lenses that come with the kit along with clear bulbs just to get on the road. Looks ok but I've also got the tri bar LED tail light and the smoked lenses would definitely look better.
Still going to try some diff bulbs, either LED or regular red ones.
I really like the increase in visibility with the extra lighting in back.
