Ah crap I knew that was coming! Not really finished yet, still working on the speedo mount and the idiot lights and anyone with an FXD knows what a PIA that can be. I have a mount that goes on the integrated riser on the underside and I'm trying to get the idiot lights mounted between the gas cap and fuel gauge.

I'm still trying to figure out exactly where the speedo is gonna go. As far as the grommets go... Mine tore the first time I removed them so now they come off and on real easilly.
Are you sure you tore the grommet because I believe it already has a break in the skinny part at the top? Yeah the speedo is challenging. I have a t-bar mount from cycle performance that I cut up and then took a speedo cup and mounted it to that so it will sit closer to bars and not be hovering over the gas cap so much. It's kinda hard to explain so when it's all done I'll do a good write-up on it with some pics.
there is a square hole in the rear fender in front of the tire that gives you a straight shot to the back bone. pull the harness through the hole and then stuff all the slack back under the seat.
For 2006 they moved the access to the bottom of the backbone over the front rocker box. Have to agree with everyone here, it's a *****.
Really? I've got new Gimps on my bike right now, but haven't buttoned everything back up yet since I'm waiting on UPS for a longer brake cable. I thought to myself as I was pulling the wiring out that it might be kinda tough to get it back in right. But it sounds like it's more than just a little tough. Thanks for giving me something to look forward too, fellas!
As for the grommet: Mine had a cuts in the top from day 1. Makes sense, unless the moco expects you to never actually use the damned things.
I did my bars over the summer. Had that damn loop out three times.
Pulled it out, did the bars. Put all the wires back in the connectors and checked everything out...all worked. Got it all back together and the damn turn signals on the right side wouldnt work.
Pulled it all out again. Checked everything, all is good, everything works great. Get it all back together and the damn thing doesnt work...WTF
Here was the problem...figured it out the third time. Had two wires switched in the connector. I had it apart the first time and had the front brake lever wedged while switching the bars. Second time around, I was putting on chrome switch housings and had the front brake lever wedged open again. Turns out that the signals worked with the brake on but when the brake was off they didnt. Everytime I had it apart the brake was on due to the wedge......DAMN!
Check Double check and triple check.
I was actually taking the rear wheel off the bike to get the damn loom back in. Felt like I was stuffing a turkey!

Compgeek, I think I made it a little harder because like Chad said I had extra turn signal wiring left over because I took them off the bars and mounted them to the trees. That left me with a good length of wire that had to be put back in there.
Redrubicon, I made sure I checked that everything worked before I put the loom back in just after I got the connectors back together. That damn thing aint coming out again . . at least until I put some apes on in the future.
I'm not looking forward to pulling mine apart yet again. I want to add a shift light to my bars and want to run more wires in them...have to pull the wires out to drill for the shift light wire...uggh
