Default switch housing

Yesterday I went to put my Milwauke twins big radius t-bars on. When I went to tighten up my switch housings they were still loose. I was wondering if anybody else has run into this same problem, and how they fixed it? I was thinking of getting some thin shrink tubing and putting over the bars where the switch housings clamp on to.

Ya, the bars have got to be the wrong size, or atleast where everything bolts on at. Sure you could make it work though!

I've moved the housing towards the outside of the bars and they tighten up fine. But where they go with the grips on is where they have drilled and indented the bars for the internal wiring. Just thinking the shrink tube way but will probably just send them back. I like the drag bars and riser look better than the t-bars.

It sounds like you have 7/8" bars. Although you could probably snug everything up with shrink wrap, I personally wouldn't want to. To me, it's simply too much of a risk when you consider the switch housings are what hold your brake and clutch levers on. Not to mention your throttle grip. If either one of the switch housings comes loose enough to rotate while you're riding, you may not be able to reach the levers. No clutch or front brake? No thanks!

I've had my throttle side housing come apart while riding. On the highway. Front brake lever rotated away from my grip (forward and down towards the trees) and my throttle almost fell off the end of the bar. The throttle cables were the only thing holding it on. Scared the bejessus out of me. Turns out I forgot the 'ol blue locktite. Never again. I will never be willing to make compromises with how things fit together on my bars....Just my 2 cents.

Cheers!

Curious there compgeek, my clutch and front brake assemblies are held on by their own clamps, not the switch housings.

You're saying yours is held on by the switch housings?

I wasn't 100% clear. My clutch and brake levers have their own clamps, too. But since both the switch housings and lever clamps are for 1" diameter bars, I'd be worried about mounting them on a 7/8" bar.

My failure was a combination of a switch housing torx screw and a brake clamp torx screw that were both loose. It was a perfect storm of my own creation. Happened about 2 weeks after I bought the bike. I changed out the grips and forgot the locktite. It was my first time doing anything to my bike and it was ugly enough to scare me straight.

They're not 7/8" bars... More than likely what happened is the bars were 1" before they dimpled them. When they dimpled the bars, it shrunk the diameter just enough that the housings will not tighten

yeah I took my caliper after them and as you get closer to the dimpled part of the bars they get gradually smaller. Does this happen with every dimpled bar? The only reason that I'm changing bars is after about 30min of riding my hands start to fall asleep. Does this happen to anyone else with mini apes?
