Default Trailer Help ---will explain

I am 71 finally retired, wife is 51 and still working, there are many events and roads i wish to visit before it's to late, I want to take the bikes in a trailer, wife can fly and join me, return home to let me wander- back north

SO here goes!!!!

I want a 7 x 12 or 14, tandem, enclosed I live 2 miles from the Washington border and trailers are very expensive compared to the ones mfg in the south.

Any tips or hints on buying one at a reasonable price is appreciated, I realize I will have to drive to pick-up but Georgia is a little far

Have been surfing the net for over 3 months and no dealer with good pricing jumps out!!!!!

I am a little far to help with a dealer but I paid 4900 for my 7X16 with some extras (led lights/tall ceiling/ramp/torsion suspention/etc).

One thing I will tell you is if you plan to put some miles on it, pay the extra for the torsion suspention it is well worth the extra money.

Also, get it set up with electric brakes. I occassionally trailer my classic Mini to meets and used to do it with a trailer without brakes. Weight of the car and trailer were about 2500 lbs. It only took one "brown moment" to convince me to get some trailer brakes. Now, with the car on the trailer, it feels like my fullsize van stops better than without the trailer.

I suspect with the economy the way it is that people looking to dump large items like trailers would increase. Ya know, sell trailer...keep home. Trailers are not that expensive down here in sc. Used are even cheaper but the ride back to Washington (i suspect state, not d.c.) would be a long one.

I live in a little town in southern Oregon, there are (or were) 2 trailer manufactures. I went in last year looking for a trailer and you are right, expensive compared to the prices in So Cal.

Strange, with the economy, they are both going out of business. Guess they should have cut their prices a little.

I'd suggest call around. It cost me about $450 in Diesel (round trip) to drive my F-250 from Oregon to Souther CA. If you could save more than that, it might be worth the trip.

I make this trip frequently, straight thru is 12 hr drive. Sometimes I'll stop near sacramento for the night and split it up.

You might also put a "wanted" ad on Craigs list. Like the other poster said, I would assume some people are trying to get rid of that kind of stuff.

look for used motor cross trailers atv trailers, then just put some ilets in the floor where you want em and roll up wheel chuck... i would imagine your looking at about 2g's unless you dont mind working and making it what you need, you can prob score a used one for around 900 - 1200 bucks, then just repack bearings, put in the tie downs you need, check the wiring... your good (i also always replace the reciever on used trailers... dont knwo why just do)

You are recently retired and have a young chic for a wife. Take advantage of this and just buy the cheapest trailer which meets your needs locally. Then go travel, you frugal old geezer.

Congrats and enjoy!
