So here's the scoop. I have been in the market to buy a new bike w/ the sporty trade in deal going. Last Monday I was at the dealer I bought my sporty from, talking to the same salesman. I had a number from another dealer w/ more options that beat his. His last words were I'll work something up and call you. Well he never called, so I looked elsewhere (I tried calling him Weds two different times nobody at the dealer answered the phone either time with it ringing for 4-5 min each time). A third dealer was better than everyone else, had the color I wanted in stock so I put money down. Low and behold a full week later (tonight) that salesman called me asking "when are we going to get you into that new bike?" I told him I already had a deal on the table since he never called. So he wants to know their number. What should I do?? Should I try to get a better deal or tell him to F off cause I wasn't good enough to call for a week. Sorry for the long post but sometimes I hate the game.

Some of the dealers where closed for inventory all last week.
I would ask him straight out, why he didn't get back to you or return your calls. If he has a good reason, see what he can do for you. if not oh well.
Did you leave a message to call you back and did he explain why he never called earlier? Perhaps he was away on an extended Holiday break. Otherwise my thought is to go with the best deal which may mean that they have to beat each other....nice to be in a buyer's market.

I did not leave a message. Nobody picked up the phone, no answering machine, nothing in two calls. The way I see it I'm a busy guy. I work 60+ hours a week, why should I have to pester this guy to give him my business?

If your getting a better deal from the other guy, what's the worry?
It can't hurt to give him the number. If he can beat it by enough to make up what you see now as neglecting you, that's great. If he can't beat it then you made a good deal and that's great too. How can you lose?
Look out for number one. Give the number up, but make sure it's lower. If you save some cash that's all that matters. Let him know you didn't appreciate the no call back, so he'll have to beat their number, not just match it. And for sure no delivery or setup charges.
I wouldn't give the other salesman the number to shoot for. Maybe he has a good reason for not calling you back.......maybe his story is all BS. Whatever the case may be, I would give him another shot at your business, but I would make sure the playing field was level. The other dealer, without any coaching gave you a good deal, see what this guy comes up with, without your help.
It's always easy to be Johnny come lately, and meet or beat your competition, if you know what they are bidding. Would you want them handling your service in the same fashion ??
Keep the playing field level......and may the best dealer win.......
